Iwobi Tips England to Lift the World Cup 2026 Trophy

2 hours ago·1 min

Nigeria midfielder Alex Iwobi has thrown his weight behind England, declaring them among the favourites to win the FIFA World Cup 2026 in North America.

Speaking to Sky Sports Football, Iwobi expressed his confidence in the depth and quality of Thomas Tuchel's squad. "I personally believe England have a great chance of winning the World Cup," he said. "They've got so many stars in the team and so much ability. Even the players who are not starting can come off the bench and hurt the opposition."

England's only World Cup triumph came on home soil back in 1966, and the nation has long dreamed of a second title. Tuchel's side opened their 2026 campaign with authority, defeating Croatia 4-2 in their opening fixture.

Iwobi also acknowledged France as serious rivals. "I also believe France are strong contenders," the Nigeria international added. "The attacking threat that France have is scary, but I actually hope England wins it."

England's next challenge comes against Ghana's Black Stars at Gillette Stadium on Tuesday night — a match that carries significant weight for both sides as they look to build momentum in the group stage.
