Japan and Sweden Both Advance After 1-1 Draw at World Cup 2026

Japan and Sweden have both secured their places in the last 32 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 after sharing the spoils in a 1-1 draw in Group F.
Daizen Maeda gave Japan the lead with a composed finish, capping a well-worked team move that threatened to hand the Blue Samurai a decisive advantage over their opponents.
However, Sweden refused to buckle. Anthony Elanga levelled proceedings with a long-range strike that cancelled out Maeda's opener and ensured both sides would progress to the knockout stages.
The result means neither team was required to rely on results elsewhere — the draw alone was enough for both Japan and Sweden to advance into the round of 32.
