Joe Aribo Linked With Sensational Return to Rangers

4 days ago·1 min

Joe Aribo could be set for a return to Scottish Premiership club Rangers after parting ways with Southampton, according to reports from Complete Sports Nigeria.

The Nigeria international became a free agent when his contract at St Mary's expired, drawing a curtain on a four-year chapter with the club. Aribo had made the move from Rangers to Southampton in a £10 million transfer in 2022.

His final season on the south coast proved difficult. The 29-year-old struggled to nail down a regular starting berth and was sent on loan to Leicester City in January, but his time at the King Power Stadium yielded little — just six appearances, with only one start.

A decorated first spell at Ibrox

Aribo's first stint with Rangers spanned three seasons and produced considerable silverware. He was part of the squad that claimed the Scottish Premiership title and the Scottish Cup during that period.

His most memorable moment in a Rangers shirt came on the grandest stage European football has to offer. In the 2022 UEFA Europa League final, Aribo found the net against Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt — though Rangers ultimately fell short in a heartbreaking defeat.

Now a free agent, a move back to Ibrox would reunite the midfielder with the club where he first made his name at the top level.
