Jordan Henderson Ruled Out of World Cup 2026 After Freak Injury

England midfielder Jordan Henderson has been ruled out of the remainder of the FIFA World Cup 2026 after suffering a freak injury — not during the match itself, but in its immediate aftermath.

Henderson landed awkwardly while hopping over the advertising hoardings following England's dramatic 3-2 victory over Mexico at the Azteca Stadium. Teammates crowded around him as medical staff rushed to provide treatment on the spot.

Stretcher exit and hospital visit

The situation quickly became serious. Henderson was carried off on a stretcher and administered oxygen before being taken to hospital, as confirmed by England head coach Thomas Tuchel in his post-match press conference.

The 36-year-old did not travel back with the rest of the squad to their training base in Kansas City on Monday, instead remaining in Mexico City alongside a member of England's support staff.

Limited impact at the tournament

Henderson had featured sparingly in England's campaign, coming on for just six minutes in their 2-0 Group L win against Panama — his only appearance at the tournament before the injury ended his involvement entirely.

England, meanwhile, continue their World Cup journey having secured a place in the quarter-finals with the hard-fought win over Mexico.
