Juventus have reached an agreement to take Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade on a season-long loan, with the Italian club paying a £3.5 million fee for the temporary deal.

The 24-year-old is set to travel to Turin for a medical after Juventus emerged as the winning club in a race that had drawn interest from several continental sides before Tuesday's transfer deadline. The agreement carries no option for Juventus to make the move permanent.

Limited opportunities at Newcastle

Woltemade arrived at Newcastle from Stuttgart in August 2025, becoming the club's record signing at £69 million. However, regular first-team football has proved elusive under new manager Matthias Jaissle, with the German forward starting only one of Jaissle's opening three games in charge.

He did contribute from the bench in Newcastle's 2-0 victory at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, providing the assist for Yoane Wissa's goal, but a first-team spot has not been guaranteed.

Juventus' search for a forward

The move addresses a pressing need at Juventus, who entered the market for attacking reinforcements after Jonathan David departed on loan to Atletico Madrid.

Juventus had also held talks over a loan move for Manchester United's Joshua Zirkzee, whose proposed switch to Fiorentina had collapsed. Ultimately, the Turin club decided Woltemade represented a stronger fit for their system — and a more attractive financial arrangement, as the deal avoids the obligation-to-buy clause that Manchester United had attached to any Zirkzee loan.

Fernandez-Pardo arrival clears the path

Newcastle's pursuit of Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo, in a deal worth up to £55 million, effectively opened the door for Woltemade's departure. Fernandez-Pardo flew into Tyneside on Monday evening to complete the formalities of his move, providing Newcastle with added attacking depth to offset Woltemade's absence.
