Kane Calls Golf Round with Trump a 'Surreal' Experience

England captain Harry Kane has described an unusual afternoon on the golf course with United States President Donald Trump as one of the more remarkable off-field moments of his career.
Kane made the revelation in the build-up to England's FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-final against Norway in Miami on Saturday, confirming he had played a round with Trump in Florida roughly 18 months ago during a trip to Palm Beach.
"It was a pretty surreal experience just to meet him and obviously play golf with him. His golf is pretty good, to be honest with you. I hope I can play golf as good as him when I'm his age, that's for sure. A unique experience, but I was just grateful that he invited me to play,"
said the Bayern Munich striker.
Trump returns the compliment
Trump, 80, had already gone public with the encounter, offering warm words about Kane following England's 3-2 victory over Mexico in the round of 16 — a match in which the captain contributed six goals and one assist across the tournament.
"I think Kane is a great player. I played golf with him and I like him a lot. He's a good golfer too. He's really great,"
Trump said.
World Cup host nation's president takes interest
The United States is co-hosting the 2026 World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico, giving Trump a personal stake in the tournament's success. His public endorsement of Kane adds an unusual dimension to England's deep run in a competition being played partly on American soil.
Kane, for his part, showed no sign of being overawed — either on the golf course or at the World Cup, where his goals have been central to England's progress to the last eight.
