Harry Kane has confirmed that formal contract extension discussions with Bayern Munich began last week, following the club's emphatic 5-1 Bundesliga opening-day victory over Stuttgart.

The England captain described the first official talks as encouraging, though he was clear that reaching a final agreement will require more than a week or two of negotiations.

No rush from either side

At 33, Kane acknowledged the significance of whatever deal he signs next, describing it as a major contract in his career — even if not his last. Despite that weight, both player and club are approaching the situation with calm confidence.

"I'm 33. It's probably going to be, not my last contract. But it's a big contract for me to sign," Kane told Bayern Munich's official website. "They need to make sure I'm happy. They obviously need to make sure they're happy… There's no panic from either side. I'm sure we'll get to a point where both sides are happy."

Kane has made no secret of his wish to remain in Munich, and the club appear equally keen to retain their record-breaking striker.

A season of extraordinary output

The urgency to tie Kane down is understandable given what he produced last season. He netted 36 goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances — the third-highest tally in a single German top-flight campaign — as Bayern Munich claimed the league and cup double.

Across all competitions for club and country, Kane scored 73 goals last season, including six at the World Cup as England reached the semi-finals.
