Kane Cools Talk of Premier League Return as Bayern Munich Life Suits Him

Harry Kane has cooled speculation about a future return to the Premier League, admitting the desire to go back and chase Alan Shearer's all-time scoring record has faded since he settled in Germany.
The England captain departed Tottenham for Bayern Munich in 2023 with 213 top-flight goals to his name — leaving him 47 short of Shearer's landmark tally of 260. At the time, a homecoming always seemed possible. Now, Kane is not so sure.
"When I first left, for sure it was something I thought — I would definitely be coming back," Kane said after collecting the Golden Shoe for finishing as the Bundesliga's top scorer on Wednesday. "That itch isn't there as much anymore."
"I am extremely happy here in Munich," he continued. "It opened my eyes to a totally different world of football outside of England and it has made me appreciate European football even more."
A career-best season in Bavaria
Kane's contentment is backed by extraordinary numbers. He scored 61 goals in 51 appearances last season as Vincent Kompany's Bayern side claimed a league and cup double — part of a staggering total of 73 goals across all competitions. By any measure, it stands as the finest individual campaign of his career.
Kane is entering the final 12 months of the four-year deal he signed following his £86.4 million move from Spurs, but talks over a new contract at Bayern are expected to begin soon.
Kompany's influence
Kane is effusive in his praise for manager Vincent Kompany, the former Manchester City defender who took charge at Bayern in 2024. The striker credits Kompany's system — its attacking freedom, deeper roles, and late runs into the box — with unlocking a new dimension to his game.
"Since the boss has come in he has elevated my game to another level," Kane said. "That is down to the style of play, the way we attack and the way we defend, the way he gives players freedom to sometimes receive the ball deeper and sometimes arrive late in the box."
Kane drew a parallel with his later years at Tottenham, particularly under José Mourinho, when he was given licence to drop deep and build play — a partnership that famously flourished alongside Son Heung-min.
"I think this is the best version of myself for sure," he added. "Last season speaks for itself — the best season in my career, no doubt."
As for what comes next, Kane is keeping his options open without committing to anything beyond the Allianz Arena. "Never say never, but for now I am concentrating on Bayern Munich and we will see what the future holds," he said.
