Karl Darlow Set to Join Manchester United on Free Transfer

3 hours ago·1 min

Manchester United are on the verge of signing free-agent goalkeeper Karl Darlow, with the deal expected to be confirmed imminently.

Darlow, 35, departed Leeds United when his contract expired at the end of June. He made 22 Premier League appearances last season and had established himself as manager Daniel Farke's first choice by the campaign's end. He also currently holds the number-one shirt for Wales.

Bayindir departure on the cards

The arrival of Darlow is expected to accelerate the exit of Altay Bayindir, who spent most of last season as deputy to first-choice stopper Senne Lammens at Old Trafford.

Radek Vitek is also set to move on — either temporarily or permanently — following a productive loan spell at Bristol City. With the goalkeeping options thinning, head coach Michael Carrick required reliable cover given that 40-year-old Tom Heaton has not featured for the first team since February 2023.

Pre-season begins in Helsinki

Should the move be completed as anticipated, Darlow will link up with his new teammates for pre-season preparations. Manchester United's pre-season campaign opens against Wrexham in Helsinki on 18 July.
