Khaldoon Al Mubarak Vows 'Wonderful Sit-Down' Once Man City Verdict Lands

11 hours ago·2 min

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has pledged a candid public conversation once the independent commission overseeing the club's long-running financial misconduct case finally delivers its ruling.

In an end-of-season interview published on the club's official channels, Al Mubarak said he had been holding his tongue and would continue to do so until a verdict arrives. "Let me be as consistent as I've always been — until we have a ruling, I can't say much," he stated. "Once we have a ruling, believe me, we're going to have a wonderful sit-down together and I'll say everything I've wanted to say for the last three years."

The charges and the wait

In 2023, Manchester City were charged with 115 alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules — though reports suggest the actual figure stands closer to 130. The alleged violations cover a nine-year period between 2009 and 2018, and include accusations of failing to cooperate with Premier League investigations. City have denied every charge.

A closed-door hearing spanning 12 weeks ran from September to December 2024, yet the commission has still not published its findings — leaving the club, the Premier League, and the wider football world in a prolonged state of uncertainty for more than a year since proceedings concluded.

No plans to sell

Al Mubarak also confirmed that owner Sheikh Mansour has no intention of parting with Manchester City or the City Football Group. "There's no intention to sell. There's only intention to keep growing this because the view here is that this will only grow and this is a beautiful business to own," he said.

The chairman, who has held the role since 2008, pointed to football's enduring appeal in a shifting media landscape. "Sport stays. And football within sports is the pinnacle. And Manchester City and this group within the football world is a pinnacle. And these sorts of jewels, you don't sell," he added.

An era of dominance now in transition

Al Mubarak has presided over an extraordinary trophy haul at City — eight Premier League titles, four FA Cups, seven League Cups, four Community Shields, one UEFA Champions League, one FIFA Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup. Of those 27 trophies, 20 arrived under Pep Guardiola, who ended his decade-long tenure at the close of the 2025/26 season.

Despite the departure of their most decorated manager, Al Mubarak made clear the club's ambitions remain firmly intact as Manchester City enter a new chapter.
