Kolo Toure enjoyed a career that few players could match — from the heart of Arsenal's famous Invincibles back four to Manchester City's rise under Roberto Mancini, and then on to Liverpool at the dawn of the Jurgen Klopp era. That breadth of experience means his dream team is a genuinely star-studded affair.

Between the posts and at the back

Toure hands the goalkeeper's jersey to Jens Lehmann, describing him as a brilliant shot-stopper who was equally comfortable dealing with crosses and the ball at his feet. "He had a strong personality… but oh my god, he was so crazy," Toure recalled with a laugh. "You didn't want to get in his bad books, trust me."

At right-back, Lauren edges out Emmanuel Eboue — though Toure is quick to praise Eboue's contributions to both club and country. Sol Campbell joins Toure's fellow Ivory Coast international Vincent Kompany at centre-back, with Toure highlighting Campbell's aerial power and Kompany's maturity and leadership even as a young player at Manchester City. Ashley Cole completes the defensive line at left-back, praised for his energy and natural attacking instinct.

A diamond in midfield

Toure deploys a midfield diamond, anchored by Steven Gerrard in a deep-lying role. "His vision and passing range were perfect in there," Toure said of the former Liverpool captain. Patrick Vieira occupies one of the central positions — chosen above David Silva — with Toure crediting his power, technique, and box-to-box endurance.

The right side of the diamond belongs to his brother, Yaya Toure. "If I don't pick Yaya, he'll ask why!" Kolo said, laughing. He was full of admiration, though: "Yaya was always the better player of the two of us growing up — I was happy with that, I don't mind my brother being better than me." Dennis Bergkamp sits at the tip of the diamond, tasked with threading passes and contributing goals for the two forwards ahead of him.

A lethal attacking partnership

Thierry Henry leads the line alongside Didier Drogba — though Toure admitted the second striking spot was fiercely contested by Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero, both of whom earn places on the bench. Of Henry, Toure was characteristically brief and effusive: "His speed, his power, his desire to win… he was a phenomenon." Drogba earns his place for his physicality, determination, and ability to deliver in the biggest matches — qualities Toure described as those of "a legend of African football."

Wenger: the manager who changed everything

There was no debate over the managerial role. Arsène Wenger is Toure's only choice, and the reasons are deeply personal. "No one believed in me until him and David Dein," Toure said. "It's not easy to pick a boy from Africa, take him straight to England and put him in the Arsenal team after not even a year. I owe him everything."
