Kompany's Touchline Presence in Doubt for Bayern Munich's Champions League Clash With Arsenal

Bayern Munich assistant coach Aaron Danks has admitted he cannot confirm whether manager Vincent Kompany will be present on the touchline when the German giants face Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League.
Kompany missed Tuesday's training session and his scheduled press conference after falling ill with a virus that has caused pain in his legs. Danks addressed reporters in his place, offering what limited clarity he could on the situation.
"It has affected his legs at times and he's felt some pain in his legs," Danks said. "It's just a virus. The doctors, the experts know way more than I do. The most important thing is that he rests and takes the time that he needs — however long that may be. Unfortunately, I can't tell you whether that's tomorrow or two, three days' time."
Kompany involved despite illness
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his physical presence in the dugout, Danks confirmed that Kompany remains actively involved in preparations from home, with the two maintaining constant communication throughout the day.
"Getting Vincent to rest is a difficult challenge," Danks acknowledged. "He's at home, resting. We discussed training today, the type of work, the meetings. I'm in constant dialogue with him. He'll play his part in the game — whether that's at the Allianz or not at the Allianz, we have to wait and see."
Danks is no stranger to stepping in for Kompany on this stage. The Englishman took charge of Bayern on the touchline during last season's Champions League semi-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain — a 5-4 defeat — when Kompany was similarly absent.
Kimmich and Neuer doubts add to Bayern's concerns
Danks also revealed that Joshua Kimmich missed Bayern's final training session ahead of the Arsenal fixture for personal reasons, with his availability for the match still undecided.
"With Joshua, unfortunately, it's just personal reasons," Danks explained. "I'm not sure at the moment what that means moving into tomorrow."
Adding further uncertainty to Bayern's preparations, Danks confirmed that no decision had been made on whether Manuel Neuer would start, despite the goalkeeper returning to training over the past two days.
"Manuel has been on the grass for the last two days, which is fantastic," Danks said. "But at the moment, no decision has been made. It's nice to have him back with us."
