Turkish Super Lig club Konyaspor have entered into negotiations with Nigeria international Chidozie Awaziem, as the centre-back weighs up a return to Turkish football this summer.

Awaziem is set to depart Nantes after the French club's relegation from Ligue 1 at the close of last season, leaving him free to explore options ahead of the new campaign. Turkish outlet Spor Depor reports that Konyaspor are pushing to bolster their defensive line with his signature.

A familiar destination

The Super Eagles defender is no stranger to the Turkish top flight. He made his first appearance in the division during the second half of the 2018/19 season, joining Çaykur Rizespor on loan and registering 16 league appearances.

Awaziem returned to Turkey for the 2021/22 campaign on loan at Alanyaspor, where he cemented a starting berth and contributed one goal across 22 league outings.

The 29-year-old is a versatile operator, capable of performing at right-back and in defensive midfield in addition to his preferred role at centre-back. His experience and adaptability have attracted interest from multiple clubs this summer, with Konyaspor emerging as the frontrunners.

Konyaspor's season in review

The Anatolian Eagles finished ninth in the Turkish Super Lig last season. They also made it to the Turkish Cup final, where they fell to a 2-1 defeat against Trabzonspor.
