Lagos State Pledges Full Support for December CAF Awards Ceremony

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has pledged the state government's full commitment to hosting the 2026 CAF Awards, scheduled for December 7 in Lagos, promising a world-class experience for everyone attending the prestigious ceremony.
Sanwo-Olu made the pledge during a courtesy visit by a CAF delegation at Lagos House, Marina, on Sunday. The delegation was led by Dr. Christian Emeruwa, Project Lead for the CAF Awards and CAF General Assembly.
Security and logistics at the forefront
The governor singled out security, logistics, branding, and venue access as the key areas commanding his administration's attention. He said Lagos is determined to deliver an unforgettable experience for CAF officials, football stakeholders, and international visitors alike.
Sanwo-Olu framed Lagos as a major commercial, cultural, entertainment, and technology hub on the continent, pointing to its diverse and youthful population as compelling assets for hosting large-scale international events.
A statement issued by the Governor's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, quoted Sanwo-Olu as saying the event would spotlight the state's hospitality and its proven capacity for global engagements.
CAF delegation on five-day inspection tour
Dr. Emeruwa revealed that the CAF delegation is in Nigeria on a five-day mission, assessing proposed venues and evaluating preparations for both the CAF Awards in Lagos and the upcoming CAF General Assembly in Abuja.
He described the CAF Awards as one of Africa's premier annual celebrations, recognising the finest players, officials, and national teams for their achievements across the previous year.
The December 7 ceremony is expected to attract prominent figures from African and international football, including representatives from FIFA and other global dignitaries.
To ensure a seamless event, Dr. Emeruwa requested branding and publicity support from the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA), alongside a state-coordinated security framework developed in close collaboration with CAF's own security team.
