Leeds United Begin Elland Road Expansion With 32,000-Strong Season Ticket Waiting List

Leeds United have broken ground on a major expansion of Elland Road, with construction beginning on the West Stand following the end of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
The club confirmed that initial works have started with the removal of the Banqueting Suite — the first step in a project that will transform the ground into a UEFA Category Four stadium with a capacity of 53,000.
A waiting list driving ambition
The scale of demand is clear: Elland Road currently holds just under 38,000 supporters, and the stadium sells out on most matchdays. More striking still is the season ticket waiting list, which the club has confirmed now stands at 32,000 names.
That figure underlines why the expansion has become a priority. The club are seeking to convert years of pent-up supporter demand into bricks-and-mortar progress, while cementing their place as a serious Premier League outfit.
Staying in the top flight was itself a critical enabler. Premier League membership generates upwards of £120 million per season through broadcast deals and merit payments alone, and Leeds secured their status with weeks to spare last season — giving the club the financial footing to push ahead.
What the new West Stand will offer
According to an official club statement, the expanded West Stand has been "carefully designed to enhance the matchday experience whilst protecting Elland Road's famous atmosphere." Supporters are promised improved seating comfort, better sightlines, and upgraded hospitality facilities.
The development will also deliver enhanced concourses and fan amenity spaces inside and around the stadium, alongside a more inclusive and accessible environment for all visitors.
When complete, the 53,000-capacity Elland Road will rank among the largest club stadiums in England — a fitting stage for a club that has returned to the Premier League and is determined to stay there.
