Leeds United are on the verge of securing a loan deal for Nice left-back Melvin Bard, with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.

Under the terms of the agreement, Leeds United will pay Nice an initial fee of one million euros, with the option to sign Bard outright for a further five million euros when the campaign concludes. The 25-year-old Frenchman is travelling to Elland Road on deadline day to undergo a medical.

Depth needed at left-back

The deal addresses a clear gap in manager Daniel Farke's squad. Gabriel Gudmundsson is currently the only specialist left-sided option available, making the addition of Bard a priority for the Yorkshire club.

Bard would become Leeds United's sixth senior arrival of the summer, joining goalkeepers James Trafford and Michael Zetterer, defenders Nico Elvedi and Tarik Muharemovic, and forward Harry Wilson.

Gnonto situation adds urgency

The club are also navigating uncertainty in attack. Willy Gnonto is in Florence finalising a move to Fiorentina, a transfer to Serie A that was contingent on Leeds United identifying a suitable replacement.

That search hit a stumbling block after a move for Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk was hijacked by Tottenham Hotspur, leaving Farke's side to look elsewhere to cover the departure.
