Leeds United vs Wrexham: Pre-Season Clash Set for Tampa's Raymond James Stadium

1 hour ago·3 min

Leeds United and Wrexham kick off their respective pre-season US tours against each other at Tampa's Raymond James Stadium — the same venue that hosted England's 1-0 FIFA World Cup 2026 warm-up victory over New Zealand last month.

Kick-off is scheduled for 12:30am BST / 7:30pm ET on Saturday / 9:30am AEST on Sunday. The match is available on Premier Sports in the UK, ESPN Deportes in the USA, and Stan Sport in Australia.

Leeds United's Premier League ambitions

Manager Daniel Farke guided Leeds United to a 14th-place Premier League finish last season — a satisfactory return for a newly promoted side, but the club are well aware that consolidating their top-flight status demands far more. Having suffered relegation in 2022/23 after a precarious survival the season before, Farke is leaving nothing to chance this summer.

His 30-man tour squad includes summer signing Harry Wilson alongside Bosnia and Herzegovina defender Tarik Muharemovic, a newcomer who made headlines at FIFA World Cup 2026 for a different reason — a tackle he received led to USA striker Folarin Balogun's red card, a suspension subsequently overturned following an intervention from President Trump. Muharemovic will hope his next spell on American soil passes with considerably less drama.

After this opener, Leeds United face Sunderland in New Jersey and Liverpool in Chicago to round out their tour schedule.

Wrexham riding the Hollywood wave

Championship side Wrexham arrive in Tampa with two pre-season matches already completed. They drew 0-0 with Polish club Wisla Krakow on 11 July before producing an eye-catching 1-0 win over Manchester United in Helsinki last Saturday, striker Sam Smith scoring the only goal.

Forward Josh Windass is set to return from injury for this fixture, adding extra firepower to a squad that — despite no new signings this summer — retains significant attacking quality under Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Wrexham narrowly missed the Championship play-offs on the final day of last season, but from 2026/27 the play-off places expand to include eighth position, which could benefit the North Wales club greatly in their push toward the Premier League.

The Red Dragons also face Liverpool and Sunderland during the remainder of their tour — opponents they hope to eventually meet as league rivals. Wherever Wrexham travel, the popularity of the hit documentary series Welcome to Wrexham ensures a significant following, particularly if Reynolds or McElhenney make an appearance.
