Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Spain international Víctor Muñoz, after stepping in to derail a move that had been taking shape between the player and Newcastle United, according to sources who spoke to ESPN.

Muñoz, who plays his club football at Osasuna, had been heading for Newcastle before Liverpool made their move and turned the transfer on its head.
