Liverpool have secured the services of 18-year-old goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans from Belgian club Genk in a deal that could reach up to £30m when add-ons are included.

Brughmans has put pen to paper on a six-year contract at Anfield, though he will continue at Genk on loan for the remainder of this season before making the move to Liverpool ahead of the 2027-28 campaign.

The towering Belgian shot-stopper stands at 6ft 7in and has featured in all four of Genk's matches so far this season. He has also represented Belgium at youth international level.

According to BBC Sport, the transfer comprises an initial fee plus performance-related add-ons, with the £30m figure representing the maximum achievable total.

Liverpool's current goalkeeper situation

Liverpool's goalkeeping options currently include Alisson, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Freddie Woodman, and Vitezslav Jaros. With Alisson's contract set to expire next summer and uncertainty surrounding Mamardashvili's future, Brughmans is being lined up as a key option from 2027 onwards.

A product of Liverpool's talent-scouting network

The signing was driven by Liverpool's global talent department, headed by Matt Newberry. The club has been increasingly active in recruiting promising young players from across the world.

Earlier this year, Liverpool brought in Senegal's Mor Talla N'diaye and Austria's Ifeanyi Ndukwe — two teenage centre-backs who caught the eye at the U17 World Cup in Qatar. Goalkeeper Armin Pecsi and midfielder Samuel Martinez, from Hungary and Colombia respectively, have also joined within the past 12 months. Pecsi is currently on loan at TSV Hartberg in Germany.
