Liverpool Target Alex Scott as Bournemouth Open Door to January Sale

Liverpool are stepping up their pursuit of Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, with transfer insider Fabrizio Romano urging fans to "save the name" as the winter transfer window approaches.
Romano has been unequivocal about the situation, stating: "I'm maintaining Alex Scott for 2027." His comments follow a notable shift in Bournemouth's stance — the club, which previously insisted Scott was not for sale, are now open to letting him leave as early as January.
Why Bournemouth have changed their position
The change of heart at Bournemouth comes after the club and Scott failed to agree on a new contract. Romano revealed that after several meetings between Scott's agents and Bournemouth's hierarchy, the club has opted to revisit their position ahead of the winter window.
"In the summer, Chelsea tried twice to sign Alex Scott. Arsenal called before signing Bruno Guimaraes. Liverpool called to understand the situation without sending any bid. All the English top clubs [were] trying to understand the situation," Romano explained.
"Chelsea were the more aggressive and Bournemouth told all these clubs that the player is not for sale. Then they wanted Alex Scott to sign a new contract but there was no agreement. Now Bournemouth are open to selling Alex Scott already in the January window."
Romano added that Bournemouth value Scott at a minimum of £100 million, insisting any deal must include "big money" and — crucially — must be a move the player himself wants to make.
Liverpool's midfield picture
Liverpool's interest in the 23-year-old comes as Andoni Iraola's side grapple with midfield concerns. Dominik Szoboszlai, among the standout performers during the previous campaign under Arne Slot, has recently missed fixtures against LASK in the UEFA Champions League and Manchester City in the Premier League. Ryan Gravenberch, a key figure in Liverpool's 2024-25 title-winning season, is also seeing his minutes reduced, with Trey Nyoni stepping into the breach.
A potential transfer would also carry a reunion angle: Scott previously worked under Iraola at Bournemouth before the Spaniard took charge at Anfield.
Chelsea in pole position, but Liverpool pushing
According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea currently believe they hold the advantage in the race for Scott's signature. However, Liverpool's growing interest means the battle for the England midfielder could intensify considerably before the window closes.
Romano was clear that no deal is guaranteed: the fee must be right, and Scott must be willing to move. With Bournemouth having reset their negotiating table, the coming weeks will be telling for all parties involved.
