Liverpool are closing in on their first signing of the Andoni Iraola era, with the club having triggered the 40 million euro (£34.6m) release clause of Osasuna winger Victor Munoz.

Munoz, 22, is currently part of Spain's squad for the FIFA World Cup, and Liverpool have sent staff to the United States to carry out his medical ahead of the transfer being finalised.

Liverpool beat Newcastle to the signing

Newcastle United had held discussions over signing Munoz following their sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona, but Liverpool moved decisively to win the race for the Spanish winger's signature.

The arrival of Munoz will mark Liverpool's opening move in the transfer market since Andoni Iraola took over as head coach from Arne Slot earlier this month.
