Leeds United legend Lucas Radebe has spoken candidly about the club's devastating relegation from the Premier League in 2004, describing a period of mismanagement and painful decline that stripped the Yorkshire club of the quality that had once made them one of English football's most formidable sides.
From Champions League semi-finals to the drop
The scale of Leeds United's fall was stark. Just three years after reaching the UEFA Champions League semi-finals in 2001 — where they were beaten by Valencia — the club found themselves fighting a losing battle against relegation, ultimately dropping out of the top flight at the end of the 2003/04 season.
Radebe, who had joined Leeds from Kaizer Chiefs in 1994 and gone on to become one of Elland Road's most beloved figures, was only able to make 14 appearances that season due to injury. The memory of that campaign still weighs on him.
