Harry Maguire has called on Marcus Rashford to commit his future to Manchester United, insisting the forward would be a significant asset to the squad should he choose to remain at Old Trafford ahead of the 1 September transfer deadline.

Rashford made his first United appearance since December 2024 as a second-half substitute in a 4-2 pre-season defeat to AC Milan in Wroclaw — a result Maguire acknowledged was the team's worst performance of their five-week, six-game pre-season schedule.

Despite the disappointing scoreline, Rashford offered glimpses of his quality, threatening the AC Milan backline on several occasions and coming close to finding the net. He wore the number nine shirt, though club officials were quick to clarify the allocation is not permanent, with Benjamin Sesko — widely expected to inherit that number this season — absent through injury.
