Manchester City are weighing up a bid for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez before the transfer window closes, according to Sky Sports News.

The 2022 World Cup winner has been a priority target for City manager Enzo Maresca, who worked with Fernandez previously and has tracked the Argentine closely since the departure of Rodri from the Etihad.

Fernandez, who joined Chelsea from Benfica for £107 million in 2023, featured in Chelsea's opening Premier League fixture of the season against Fulham, suggesting he remains part of Maresca's plans at Stamford Bridge — though City's interest has not cooled.

City's midfield ambitions

City have already moved to strengthen their engine room this window, completing the signing of highly-rated Morocco international Ayyoub Bouaddi, the 18-year-old who caught the eye at the World Cup.

However, the club are intent on making further additions in the middle of the park. Alongside Fernandez, City also hold an interest in Bournemouth's Alex Scott and Roma's Manu Kone as they look to reshape their midfield following Rodri's exit.

Chelsea had previously set a deadline in August for City to submit a formal offer, and the window is running out of time for all parties to reach an agreement.
