Manchester City vs Inter Milan: Pre-Season Friendly Set for Hong Kong Showdown

1 hour ago·2 min

Two of European football's most decorated clubs meet in Hong Kong on Saturday 1 August, as Manchester City face Inter Milan in a pre-season friendly. Kick-off is scheduled for 12:30pm BST, with the match available to stream on CITY+, Manchester City's official digital platform, at £9.99 per month or £34.99 for an annual subscription. Viewers in Italy can tune in via DAZN Italia or Sky Sport Uno, while CBS Sports Network carries the match in the United States.

Maresca's first steps

The fixture marks the beginning of Enzo Maresca's managerial tenure at Manchester City, as he takes on the considerable challenge of succeeding Pep Guardiola. The club have already moved in the transfer market, bringing in Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest ahead of the new campaign.

Key midfielder Rodri remains absent, sidelined ahead of back surgery during the summer, with speculation about a potential move to Real Madrid still circulating. Erling Haaland is also unavailable for this fixture and is expected to return to first-team training in the coming weeks. Despite those absences, City can still call upon Phil Foden among others in Hong Kong.

Inter's ambitions and arrivals

Inter Milan, managed by Chivu, arrive in Hong Kong with serious domestic ambitions — the Serie A giants finished 11 points clear of Napoli last season and will be targeting a third league title in four years in 2026/27.

The Italian club have been active in the transfer window. Defensive midfielder Aleksandar Stanković has joined from Club Brugge, while goalkeeper Ivan Provedel has arrived from Lazio. Inter are also reportedly in talks over a free transfer move for former Manchester City defender John Stones, though he will not be involved in Hong Kong regardless.

What to expect

With several key players on either side still building fitness, this pre-season meeting serves as an early opportunity for both coaches to assess their squads ahead of the season proper. FourFourTwo predict a 2-2 draw on the night.
