Manchester United's injury woes have deepened during the international break, with the club now managing six fitness concerns simultaneously as they prepare for a crucial Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Red Devils have endured a difficult start to the season, collecting just five points from their opening five Premier League fixtures and suffering a third-round Carabao Cup exit — all of which has heaped pressure on manager Michael Carrick.

A string of setbacks

The problems began when Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford both withdrew from the England squad through injury. Patrick Dorgu then returned from international duty with Denmark nursing a hamstring issue — a particularly worrying development, given that the injury mirrors one that kept him sidelined for three months last season.

Benjamin Sesko is also carrying a knock described as one that "doesn't look good," while Bruno Fernandes emerged as perhaps the most alarming concern after limping off during Portugal's match against Wales.

"In the game against Wales, we went in with all the available players but Bruno Fernandes came off with a complicated problem," Portugal manager Roberto Martínez said at a press conference on Saturday. He added that the issue "involves treatment and recovery time," though Fernandes may yet return to Carrington before the break concludes.

Martínez also revealed that Fernandes had been managing the problem for some time: "He's coming off an injury at United, and he told me he's been playing with that pain for the last three games, which is hindering him."

Mazraoui the latest to go down

The most recent blow came when Noussair Mazraoui was forced off during Morocco's 2-0 victory over Lesotho on Tuesday evening. The 28-year-old full-back, who had scored against Gabon the previous Friday, was substituted for Achraf Hakimi after landing awkwardly and clutching his back. Morocco manager Mohamed Ouahbi offered no update on Mazraoui's condition after the match.

While Mainoo and Rashford are understood not to have suffered serious injuries, the situation surrounding Dorgu, Sesko, Fernandes, and Mazraoui is considerably more uncertain — leaving United's squad depth severely tested ahead of the visit of Tottenham Hotspur.
