Manchester United are eyeing a major defensive shake-up this transfer window, with Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite emerging as a key target in their plans to rebuild at the back.

The Red Devils have identified Branthwaite as central to their defensive overhaul, signalling a significant shift in how the club intends to strengthen its backline ahead of what promises to be a busy summer.

Branthwaite impressed for Everton this season and has attracted attention from several top clubs. His physical presence and composure in possession make him a profile that fits what United's coaching staff are looking for in a modern centre-back.

United's defensive unit has come under scrutiny throughout the campaign, and the club's hierarchy appears determined to address those concerns with high-profile reinforcements. Branthwaite is understood to be among the names at the top of their shopping list.

Whether Everton will be willing to part with one of their standout performers remains to be seen, but United's interest is reported to be serious as the club looks to mount a stronger challenge in the seasons ahead.
