Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has lavished praise on new signing Enzo Fernández, describing him as a natural winner whose trophy-laden CV — including the FIFA World Cup and the Club World Cup — speaks for itself.

Fernández arrives as part of a revamped midfield unit at the Etihad, with the club having splashed more than £300 million across three acquisitions: Fernández himself, Elliot Anderson, and Ayyoub Bouaddi.

A deal worth every penny

The move did not come without negotiation. City initially passed on an earlier opportunity to sign the Argentine at a marginally lower fee before ultimately chipping away at Chelsea's £135 million asking price in the final hours of the window, securing what is now the club's record transfer.

Speaking on the club's official website, Maresca made clear that it was not only the manager who wanted Fernández — his future teammates were clamouring for the deal too.
