Maresca Joins Elite Premier League Managerial Club as Manchester City Demolish Liverpool 3-0

Manchester City made it six wins from six Premier League matches — and handed Liverpool a bruising 3-0 defeat at Anfield on Sunday — to cement their dominant start to the season.

The result elevated manager Enzo Maresca into rare company. He becomes only the fourth manager in Premier League history to win each of his first six matches in charge of a club, joining Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in that exclusive group.

City sit on 18 points, three ahead of reigning champions Arsenal, while Liverpool — on seven points — find themselves down in ninth place.

Gravenberch red card turns the tide

The opening 45 minutes were tight and largely bereft of clear chances. The match's defining moment arrived early in the second half when Rayan Gravenberch received a second yellow card for a foul on substitute Jeremie Doku, reducing Liverpool to 10 men.

Liverpool had already been severely weakened before kick-off. Dominik Szoboszlai, Hugo Ekitike, Alexander Isak, and Cody Gakpo were all absent through injury, while Phil Foden was suspended for City.

Haaland, Doku, and Cherki complete the rout

City capitalised swiftly on their numerical advantage. Erling Haaland broke the deadlock in the 65th minute, converting cleanly inside the box after Doku's initial effort was blocked.

Three minutes later, Doku doubled the lead with a magnificent curling effort into the top far corner. Rayan Cherki then capped the evening, finishing off a slick team move to make it 3-0 and seal a convincing victory.

With six wins from six and a three-point cushion at the top, Manchester City look every bit the team to beat in the Premier League title race this season.
