Martin O'Neill Commits to Celtic Job After Period of Reflection

1 hour ago·1 min

Martin O'Neill has ended speculation over his future by confirming he will remain as Celtic manager, having used the international break to reflect on his position following a turbulent run of results.

O'Neill had acknowledged before the break that three consecutive defeats — including two losses to Rangers and a UEFA Europa League setback against Ferencvaros — had prompted him to reassess his situation and consult the club's board.

The 74-year-old emerged from that period of reflection with his resolve intact, making clear he has no intention of walking away from the challenge.

Ready to go

Speaking to Celtic Player, O'Neill was unequivocal about his commitment: "I am. I'm extremely prepared for it."

"We had a difficult week. It can happen, you can lose to your arch-rivals, you can lose a European game. It's certainly not the end of the world, as it seemed to be described. But ready to go."

O'Neill also addressed the thought process he went through during the break, revealing that his mind was made up relatively quickly.

"I did think I would take a little bit of time and it didn't take me that much time to think about it. I want to lead the club, I want to try and win the league, which is what we set out to do, and just as determined now as ever before."

He closed with a message of confidence ahead of the resumption of fixtures: "I'm back, I'm raring to go and the team's ready."
