Mbappé Reveals Beckham Has Pitched MLS Move to Him Multiple Times

1 hour ago·2 min

Kylian Mbappé has disclosed that David Beckham has approached him on multiple occasions about a potential move to MLS, as France's captain continues to shine at the FIFA World Cup 2026 in the United States.

Mbappé scored twice in each of France's opening two Group I victories — a 3-1 win over Senegal and a follow-up triumph against Iraq — propelling him past Olivier Giroud to become Les Bleus' all-time leading scorer. He has now netted 16 times at World Cup tournaments, a tally surpassed only by Lionel Messi.

Beckham's pitch and the MLS appeal

When asked whether he could see himself playing in MLS one day, Mbappé did not dismiss the idea. "We'll see. David Beckham has mentioned it to me many times," he said. "American culture is different, there are no limits to ambition, and I like that."

Beckham co-owns Inter Miami, the MLS club where Messi has thrived since joining in July 2023. The former England and Manchester United icon — who also had stints at Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain — appears keen to add another global superstar to his roster.

Turbulence in Madrid

The Real Madrid forward's domestic season ended on a sour note. He was booed by Los Blancos supporters after returning from a hamstring injury, with fans angered that he had holidayed in Sardinia during his recovery. A petition demanding the club release him gathered more than 95 million signatures — despite Mbappé scoring 42 goals across all competitions last term.

Under contract at Real Madrid until 2029, Mbappé remains tied to the club for the foreseeable future. At 27, he is also nine years younger than Messi was when he made his high-profile switch to Inter Miami, making an imminent MLS move unlikely. He has yet to win La Liga or the UEFA Champions League, which gives him further incentive to remain in Europe.

A flute, a chat show, and Norway on Friday

Off the pitch, Mbappé has shown a playful side in America. After scoring against Senegal, he celebrated by mimicking someone playing a flute — a suggestion made to him by television host James Corden during a guest appearance on Corden's After Hours show.

Next up for Mbappé is a high-stakes Group I decider on Friday night, when France face Norway and their own star forward, Erling Haaland, to determine who tops the group.
