Mbappe Holds Liverpool Talks as Real Madrid Future Grows Uncertain

Kylian Mbappe is in discussions with Liverpool over a potential move to Anfield, according to Spanish journalist Francois Gallardo, who claims talks have already taken place with Mbappe's mother and representative, Fayza Lamari.
Gallardo, speaking to outlet Defensa Central, stated that Liverpool are the French forward's preferred destination among several interested Premier League clubs. "Several Premier League teams are interested in Kylian Mbappe, but the player's priority is Liverpool," Gallardo said, adding that Liverpool had contacted Lamari in recent weeks.
Struggles at the Bernabeu
Mbappe's arrival at Real Madrid two years ago has disrupted the club's attacking balance. Vinicius Jr has struggled to replicate his previous form alongside the Frenchman, Jude Bellingham has been pushed into a deeper role, and Rodrygo has lost his starting place through a combination of injury and poor form.
The ripple effect prompted Real Madrid to sign Yan Diomande, a left-winger, during the summer transfer window — an indication that manager Carlo Ancelotti is searching for solutions in attack. Madrid last lifted the UEFA Champions League in 2024, and have yet to add another major trophy with Mbappe in the squad.
Gallardo went further on social media, writing on X that Mbappe "has made the decision to leave the club in the summer of 2027, and Real Madrid is not going to stand in his way," predicting that "his next destination is in the Premier League."
The obstacles ahead
Defensa Central notes that Real Madrid have no intention of selling one of their most important players, and that any transfer would demand an extraordinary fee — with Gallardo estimating a figure in the range of €200–250 million. Transfermarkt currently values Mbappe at €200 million.
Liverpool's need for another left-sided attacker is also questionable. The club already possess a wealth of options on that flank, including Cody Gakpo, Rio Ngumoha, and Victor Munoz, while players such as Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Bradley Barcola, and Florian Wirtz also operate in that area. Mbappe could play centrally, but the depth of Liverpool's squad makes this a complicated proposition.
Liverpool next face Manchester City in their first Premier League fixture following the international break.
