McTominay Fit and Ready as Scotland Prepare to Face Haiti at World Cup 2026

Scott McTominay has been declared fit and will start for Scotland in their Group C opener against Haiti at the FIFA World Cup 2026, manager Steve Clarke has confirmed.
The Napoli midfielder missed a training session earlier in the week after being struck down by a stomach bug, raising concern among supporters and team-mates alike about his availability for Scotland's first match of the tournament.
Clarke, speaking to the press ahead of the game at Boston Stadium in Foxborough, United States, confirmed McTominay had returned to training on Friday and was in "perfect" condition. Clarke added that the midfielder would be "ready to go" for the Group C clash.
McTominay lines up alongside Aston Villa's John McGinn in the heart of Scotland's midfield — one of the most important partnerships in Clarke's setup. The 27-year-old has scored 15 goals in 70 appearances for his country and will be eager to add to that record against Haiti.
Scotland are widely expected to win the fixture regardless, but the presence of McTominay — their most influential player across the qualification campaign — gives the side a significant lift heading into the tournament.
The only fitness concern Clarke retains ahead of the game is the absence of defender Scott McKenna, who has been dealing with a calf issue. "He's had an issue with his calf, he's almost there and will probably train Monday," Clarke told reporters.
