Mexico City has embarked on one of the most ambitious grassroots football infrastructure projects in the Americas, renovating 500 football pitches across the sprawling metropolis as a direct legacy of hosting the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The initiative, driven by the Government of Mexico City, reflects a deep conviction that football's value reaches far beyond the final whistle. Alejandra Frausto, Secretary of Tourism for the Government of Mexico City, described each pitch as something far greater than a playing surface.
