Middlesbrough Seal Deal for Manchester United Goalkeeper Radek Vitek

2 hours ago·1 min

Middlesbrough have completed the signing of Czech goalkeeper Radek Vitek from Manchester United for an undisclosed fee, making him the seventh addition to the club this summer.

Vitek, 22, arrives at the Riverside having spent last season on loan at Bristol City in the Championship, where he put in 41 league appearances and demonstrated the consistency that caught Boro's eye.

The capture comes just days after Middlesbrough kicked off their pre-season competitive schedule with a 1-0 Carabao Cup victory over Wrexham on Friday.

Premier League ambition

Vitek wasted no time in making his ambitions clear upon joining the club. "The project here is very impressive, because you can clearly see the ambition and where the club wants to go," he told the club website.

"The mission is clear: to go to the Premier League. I think everyone at the club has that mindset, and I want the same thing."

Those words will resonate with a Middlesbrough fanbase hungry for a return to the top flight after years in the Championship.

Debut on the horizon

Vitek could make his first appearance for the Teessiders as early as next Saturday, when Middlesbrough open their Championship campaign at home against newly promoted Lincoln City. Middlesbrough have not revealed the length of the contract Vitek has signed.
