Moffi's Late Cameo Helps Hamburg Secure Narrow Win Over Stuttgart
Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi came off the bench in the 78th minute to play a part in Hamburg's 1-0 victory over Stuttgart in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
Moffi, who has contributed one goal in six appearances for Hamburg this season, replaced Vieira and made an immediate impact during his brief spell on the pitch. The Nigerian international's energetic display gave Hamburg fresh impetus in the closing stages.
Stuttgart dominant but toothless
Played in front of a packed home crowd at the Volksparkstadion, the contest saw coach Merlin Polzin set up his side in a resolute, compact defensive shape. Stuttgart controlled 66 percent of possession and applied relentless pressure, yet found no way through.
The visitors came closest in the first half when Deniz Undav struck the post from close range. Stuttgart racked up 19 attempts in total, but Daniel Heuer Fernandes was equal to everything thrown at him, producing a commanding performance between the posts.
Muheim's late strike seals it
With the match drifting toward a goalless draw, Hamburg struck in clinical fashion in the 88th minute. Miro Muheim — who had also scored the winning goal against Hoffenheim the previous week — found space on the edge of the area and fired past Dennis Seimen to send the Volksparkstadion into delirium.
The three points lift Hamburg and underline their ability to grind out results even when outplayed. For Moffi, every minute on the pitch counts as he bids to cement his place in Polzin's plans.
