Mikey Moore, the 19-year-old Tottenham loanee now at FC Koln, has credited the Bundesliga careers of Jude Bellingham and Jadon Sancho as the driving force behind his decision to move to Germany rather than remain in England.
Moore completed a season-long loan to the RheinEnergieStadion last month, becoming the latest in a line of young English players to take their development to the German top flight.
Following a well-worn English path
Sancho departed Manchester City for Borussia Dortmund nearly a decade ago at just 17, going on to make more than 150 appearances for the club, win the DFB-Pokal in 2021, and earn a £73 million transfer to Manchester United. Bellingham followed a similar route in 2020, leaving Birmingham City for Borussia Dortmund before his performances drew a £88.5 million move to Real Madrid in 2023.
Speaking ahead of Koln's Bundesliga clash with Eintracht Frankfurt on the Euro Leagues podcast — set to air on BBC Radio 5 Live — Moore explained that those examples convinced him to turn down options closer to home.
