Nottingham Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White is reportedly considering his future at the City Ground, with a potential exit next summer now firmly back in the conversation.

The 26-year-old attacking midfielder received a late call-up to the England squad for the current international window after several players withdrew through injury. Many observers had considered Gibbs-White the most glaring absentee from the original 27-man selection, making his eventual inclusion long overdue.

Elite clubs circling

According to Football Insider, Gibbs-White is prepared to push for a move away from Forest at the end of the season if the club fail to secure European football. Sources cited by reporter Pete O'Rourke indicate that he would be content to remain at the City Ground should Forest qualify for Europe again — but would actively seek a transfer if they do not.

Several prominent Premier League clubs are said to be monitoring the situation closely, and the prospect of competing at the elite European level is described as an opportunity that would be "hard to ignore" for the player.

Gibbs-White is currently the highest earner in Forest's squad. His contract runs until the summer of 2028, but Football Insider notes uncertainty around his long-term commitment — Forest managed only a three-year extension when he signed his most recent deal.

A summer of drama

The backdrop to this season has been anything but straightforward for Forest. Tottenham Hotspur triggered a £60 million release clause in Gibbs-White's previous contract, prompting a fierce response from the club and owner Evangelos Marinakis — including threats of legal action. Ultimately, he stayed.

Forest also entered the Europa League after Crystal Palace were demoted from European competition, adding to a chaotic summer at the City Ground.

Strong start to the season

Despite working through four managers last season, Gibbs-White helped Forest reach the semi-finals of the Europa League — a remarkable achievement. He has carried that momentum into 2025/26, starting all five Premier League fixtures before the international break, scoring once and contributing two assists across Forest's four league goals.

Internationally, Gibbs-White made his senior England debut under interim manager Lee Carsley before earning four more caps under Thomas Tuchel. He has not featured for the Three Lions since last October, making his current call-up all the more significant as he looks to reassert himself on both the club and international stage.
