Motsepe Raises CAF Member Association Funding by 33% to $700,000 Per Year

CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe has announced a 33 percent rise in annual subventions to each of the 54 CAF Member Associations, bringing their individual allocation to $700,000 per year. The CAF Zonal Unions will also benefit, receiving $900,000 annually — up 20 percent from the previous $750,000.

A dramatic climb since 2021

The scale of the increase becomes clear when set against recent history. In 2021, CAF Member Associations each received just $200,000 in annual subventions. That figure was subsequently doubled to $400,000, then raised again to $525,000, before reaching the newly announced $700,000 — a cumulative rise of 250 percent over four years.

The African Clubs Association will also see its subvention grow, climbing from $400,000 to $500,000 under the same package of measures.

What the funding is intended for

CAF says the additional resources are designed to help Member Associations build stronger football development structures across the continent. Priority areas include investment in youth and women's football, improvements to administration and governance, and the creation of sustainable programmes that open opportunities for players, coaches, referees, and other football stakeholders.

Dr Motsepe, whose CAF Executive Committee approved the increases, framed the announcement as part of a broader ambition to make football in every one of Africa's 54 member countries both world-class and financially self-sustaining.

The increases represent a continued acceleration of CAF's investment in the grassroots and institutional fabric of African football — a priority Dr Motsepe has championed since taking office in 2021.
