Everton manager David Moyes has conceded he must accept the realities of transfer deadline day after a frustrating end to the summer window that saw a number of moves fall through.

The most dramatic collapse involved Monaco striker Folarin Balogun, who had been identified as a late replacement for the departed Beto. The 25-year-old United States international travelled to Everton's Finch Farm training base for a medical, only to change his mind and withdraw from the deal entirely.

Complications arising from the medical led Everton and Monaco to renegotiate their initial agreement, which had been set at £40 million. Both clubs signed a deal sheet before the transfer window closed at 23:00 BST to allow additional time to finalise terms — but Balogun ultimately walked away.
