Alex Scott had given Bournemouth the lead with a first-half strike, and for long stretches it appeared Everton would leave the Vitality Stadium empty-handed. Moyes himself admitted that his team "were never going to score" before Tarkowski's 91st-minute header changed the picture.

Resilience in the final moments

Despite the frustration, Moyes was keen to acknowledge the character his players showed in refusing to capitulate. The late equaliser preserved a point that, for much of the match, had seemed beyond Everton's reach.

The result leaves Everton with a share of the spoils from a game in which Bournemouth looked the more likely winners for the majority of 90 minutes. Moyes' side now turn their attention to building on that second-half tenacity as the Premier League campaign continues.
