Victor Muñoz struck a deflected equaliser in the 82nd minute to earn Liverpool a 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at Anfield, leaving manager Andoni Iraola still searching for his first Premier League win at the helm.

It was another frustrating afternoon for Iraola, whose side were forced to come from behind twice — mirroring last weekend's draw at Newcastle United. A point, however, was the minimum Liverpool deserved after a second-half recovery that showcased real resolve.

Forest strike first through Ndoye

Nottingham Forest took the lead in the 24th minute through Dan Ndoye, who finished across Alisson after Igor Jesus latched onto a long ball from goalkeeper Matz Sels and fed Morgan Gibbs-White to tee up the Swiss winger in the box.

Liverpool's defending for the opener was disjointed, and Oliver Glasner's side were threatening throughout the first half. A stunning stop from Alisson — pushing Igor Jesus' shot onto the bar just before the interval — kept the deficit to one.

A disallowed goal added to Liverpool's woes before the break. Florian Wirtz thought he had levelled after intercepting a James McAtee pass and converting from Jeremie Frimpong's delivery, only for a VAR review to rule Frimpong offside in the build-up.

Liverpool level through Isak

Liverpool emerged with greater urgency after half-time, and Alexander Isak drew them level in the 60th minute, tapping in a low cross from Cody Gakpo from close range. It was a composed finish, though Isak had been largely peripheral throughout the afternoon.

Gakpo had been Liverpool's brightest spark on the right flank — despite persistent transfer speculation linking him with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City — before being replaced shortly before Muñoz's equaliser.

Gibbs-White penalty puts Forest back ahead

Forest retook the lead in the 70th minute when Alisson brought down Neco Williams after a quick throw from Liam Delap. Gibbs-White stepped up and sent Alisson the wrong way from the spot to restore the visitors' advantage. Former official Mike Dean, speaking on Soccer Saturday, acknowledged the penalty was a marginal call but noted it was never likely to be overturned on review — as it was not a clear and obvious error by the referee.

Muñoz fires home to earn a point

Iraola had moved Muñoz to the right flank minutes before the Spanish summer signing found his moment. A sharp pass from Wirtz released him inside the box, and Muñoz drove his shot in off the underside of the bar with the help of a deflection off Murillo. It was an emphatic strike that silenced the mounting anxiety around Anfield.

Dominik Szoboszlai came agonisingly close to snatching all three points in the 85th minute, curling a free kick narrowly wide of the post. Ultimately, both sides had to settle for a point — and both remain without a Premier League win this season.
