Neco Williams Eyes Beach Break After Gruelling 63-Game Season

Wales and Nottingham Forest right-back Neco Williams has described his extraordinary season as both physically and mentally taxing — but says he would not have it any other way.
The 25-year-old completed the full 90 minutes as Wales drew 1-1 with World Cup-bound Ghana in a friendly at Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday. Should he feature against Romania in Bucharest on Saturday, it will be his 63rd appearance of the season across club and country.
A season that demanded everything
Williams played 53 times for Nottingham Forest as they secured their Premier League survival and reached the UEFA Europa League semi-finals — an extraordinary run that earned him the club's player of the season award. The City Ground side have since opened contract extension talks with the Wrexham-born defender.
"It is tiring, but this is what we get paid to do and we enjoy it as well, so I'm happy with that," Williams said. "As a footballer you want to play as many games as possible. If I played only a couple of games then I wouldn't be happy, but to play that amount of games means you're doing something well."
He acknowledged the toll such a demanding schedule takes. "It's physically and mentally tough, but we're professional enough to deal with what gets put in front of us," he added. "If that's games every other few days or the travelling, we're prepared for that and I've enjoyed it."
Koumas moment lifts Wales
Williams played a direct role in Wales rescuing a draw against Ghana, delivering the cross from which substitute Lewis Koumas netted an injury-time equaliser — his first international goal. The Liverpool FC academy product spent last season on loan at Hull City.
"He's been waiting for that moment for a while now," Williams said. "I'm glad he's got it. I'm glad I assisted it."
The former Liverpool FC defender was candid about Wales' summer friendly record, urging the squad to finish on a high against Romania. "We had a few chances and on another night we score more goals. We have to take the positives, build on that, and then just focus now on the next one. We know our summer record hasn't been the best, so we want to finish the season off with a win."
Holiday plans
With the season drawing to a close, Williams has his sights firmly set on rest. "I'll be going straight on holiday, having a few cocktails and putting my feet up on the beach," he said. "We'll get a couple of weeks off and then straight back into it."
