Newcastle Reject Arsenal's Opening Bid for Bruno Guimaraes

Newcastle have rejected an opening bid from Arsenal for captain Bruno Guimaraes, with the Magpies determined to hold on to one of their most influential players.

Arsenal, the reigning Premier League champions, are now in direct talks with Newcastle and are considering whether to return with a higher offer for the Brazil international.

Guimaraes, 28, had informed Newcastle's hierarchy last month that he wishes to move to the Emirates this summer. Despite the player's stance, Newcastle are adamant they want him to remain at St James' Park, where he still has two years left on his contract — plus a club-held option for a further year.

The midfielder is currently in Spain, having reported to Newcastle's pre-season camp in La Manga, as discussions between the two clubs continue in the background.

Guimaraes arrived at Newcastle in January 2022 from Lyon for £40 million and has since become a cornerstone of the squad. He has made 195 appearances for the Magpies, contributing 31 goals across all competitions.
