Newcastle United are on the verge of completing the signing of Amar Dedic from Benfica, with a deal understood to be all but agreed, according to a report from Bosnian outlet SportSport.

The 23-year-old right-back is familiar to new Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle, having made 52 appearances under him at Red Bull Salzburg. His arrival would address a pressing positional gap left by the departure of Kieran Trippier and the persistent injury troubles of Tino Livramento.

Terms and transfer fee

SportSport report that Dedic has already agreed personal terms, with the Magpies now working to finalise an agreement with Benfica. Newcastle are understood to be targeting a fee of no more than €30 million, and the report suggests the Portuguese club are prepared to sell without complication.

Dedic joined Benfica last year following a loan spell at Marseille, going on to make 43 appearances for the Lisbon side in all competitions. He has already featured twice for the Eagles this season.

A new direction for the Magpies

The summer has been one of significant upheaval at St. James' Park. Manager Eddie Howe departed during pre-season, while Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes, and Sandro Tonali were all sold for substantial fees. Jaissle was subsequently appointed to lead the rebuild.

Rather than compete with the Premier League's elite for established stars, Newcastle have pivoted toward recruiting promising young talent. This window has already seen 20-year-olds Bazoumana Toure, Ewen Jaoen, and Aladji Bamba arrive from Hoffenheim, Reims, and Monaco respectively. Teenager Sean Steur, aged 18, is also expected to join and help fill the void left by midfield departures.

Should the Dedic deal be finalised, Newcastle's total summer expenditure would rise to approximately £170–180 million. Transfermarkt values the Bosnian international at €20 million. The club open their Premier League campaign against Liverpool.
