Newcastle United are edging closer to their first outfield signing under incoming manager Matthias Jaissle, with reports indicating the club are pursuing Feyenoord winger Anis Hadj Moussa.

Jaissle is set to be confirmed as Eddie Howe's permanent replacement at St James' Park following Howe's resignation last week. The former Al-Ahli boss is expected to arrive at the club imminently, and Newcastle appear determined to hand him an early transfer win.

A familiar target for Jaissle

According to Dutch journalist Dennis Kranenburg, Newcastle are keen to bring in Hadj Moussa specifically as a replacement for Anthony Gordon, who departed the club along with Alexander Isak and Sandro Tonali over the past year. Jaissle is reported to have attempted to sign the winger during his time at Al-Ahli, only to be turned away.

Hadj Moussa, 24, is an Algerian international who operates primarily off the right wing. He joined Feyenoord two years ago from Belgian side Petro Eisden and has since established himself as a regular starter for the Dutch club. Across 83 appearances in all competitions over the past two seasons, he has contributed 25 goals and 12 assists.

While those numbers are solid rather than spectacular, Hadj Moussa has impressed with his performances in a Feyenoord side that has struggled relative to its own high standards. A standout display against Manchester City in the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League highlighted the level he can reach, and at 24, his development may not yet have peaked.

World Cup experience with Algeria

Hadj Moussa featured for Algeria at this summer's World Cup, starting the group stage opener against Argentina before dropping to a bench role for their remaining matches. The experience adds to a growing profile for a player who has also been linked with Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Chelsea in recent years.

Meanwhile, Newcastle's hold on captain Bruno Guimarães remains uncertain. The club are said to have rejected an opening offer from Arsenal for the Brazilian midfielder, though speculation around his future continues to swirl at St James' Park.
