Neymar Set to Return for Brazil's World Cup Showdown with Scotland

2 hours ago·2 min

Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Neymar will be fit to feature in the side's decisive FIFA World Cup 2026 Group C clash against Scotland, after missing the first two games of the tournament.

Speaking after Brazil's commanding 3-0 victory over Haiti, Ancelotti revealed that Neymar trained individually on Sunday before rejoining the full squad on Monday, clearing him for Wednesday's encounter.

"Neymar will be training tomorrow individually, and on Monday with the rest of the team. He will be available for the match against Scotland," Ancelotti confirmed.

A long road back

Neymar has been sidelined for approximately one month after sustaining a right calf strain, but his recovery has progressed well enough for him to make his tournament debut in what is a must-win contest for both sides.

The Brazilian forward's injury troubles are nothing new. His last appearance for Brazil came on October 17, 2023, when he suffered a devastating torn ACL and meniscus during a 2-0 FIFA World Cup qualifying defeat to Uruguay in Montevideo — an injury that kept him out of action for an extended period.

At this tournament, Neymar sat out Brazil's opening draw against Morocco and the subsequent win over Haiti, but he is now targeting a return to the biggest stage.

Central role in Ancelotti's plans

When fit, Neymar is expected to occupy a central attacking midfielder role rather than operate on the wing — a tactical shift Ancelotti has previously outlined as his preference for deploying the experienced forward.

Brazil and Scotland meet in Miami Gardens, Florida, with both nations still fighting to secure their positions in the group stage. A strong showing from Neymar on his return could prove decisive in determining who advances from Group C.
