NFF Dismisses Reports of Support for Infantino Resignation Calls

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has denied reports suggesting it joined calls for FIFA President Gianni Infantino to step down, labelling the claims as outright falsehood.

The federation made its position clear through a statement published on its official X account on Saturday, urging the public to disregard the circulating social media reports.

Pressure on Infantino

Infantino has faced mounting pressure from several confederations following controversy surrounding his FIFA forward enterprise proposal — a plan that sought to open FIFA competitions to external investment in exchange for greater financial returns. The proposal was subsequently withdrawn.

Multiple European associations, among them England, Wales, and Norway, have publicly called for the Italian-born FIFA chief to vacate his post. Argentina and Mexico, by contrast, have stood firmly behind Infantino.

Social media reports had placed the NFF in the camp of those demanding his removal, prompting the federation to issue a pointed rebuttal.
