Ngumoha Plays Down Arsenal Links as Liverpool Form Builds

Rio Ngumoha has moved to cool speculation about his future, insisting that any talk of a transfer away from Liverpool is firmly in the hands of his agent — and far from his own thoughts — as the 18-year-old continues to impress under new manager Andoni Iraola.
Reports linking the winger to Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and RB Leipzig have circulated in recent weeks, with David Ornstein writing in The Athletic last month that Ngumoha is "well-liked" at the Emirates. Yet the teenager appears unbothered by the noise.
"That is all with my agent now," Ngumoha said after coming off the bench in Liverpool's 2-1 comeback victory against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday. "I think it is all going well. I am not too sure. I just let my football do the talking at the end of the day."
Ngumoha added that the transfer chatter sits firmly at the back of his mind. "I enjoy playing, and all of that stuff is in the back of my mind really. I just play for the club, and hopefully I can carry on doing well."
Adapting to both flanks
The England international has featured in five of Liverpool's opening seven Premier League matches this season, as well as two UEFA Champions League outings against Atletico Madrid and LASK. He also started the 3-1 Carabao Cup win over Tottenham Hotspur.
Ngumoha has taken on duties across both wings since Liverpool parted ways with Mohamed Salah last summer, when the Egyptian legend departed to Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor. The youngster says the positional flexibility has sharpened his game.
"I am enjoying the challenge and to be able to play off both sides is important," he said. "I am getting to grips with the right wing now, and I am liking it. It gives me a bit more unpredictability. I have been working hard on the training pitch."
Time spent with the England squad has also accelerated his development. "I went away with England and I was playing on the right, so I learned a lot there as well. Watching the likes of Anthony Gordon and Bukayo Saka — I took on board some of the stuff they told me, and it's really helpful."
Iraola's influence and squad competition
Ngumoha praised manager Iraola, revealing that the Basque coach has encouraged him to take on opponents more often in one-on-one situations.
"I am enjoying working with him and enjoying improving," the teenager said. "Whether I start or come off the bench, I have the same mentality. I know the club is just trying to look after me. We have some of the best attackers in the world, so competing for places is not easy."
He remained philosophical about squad rotation: "It is all about healthy competition and we all just want to make the team win at the end of the day. So whatever minutes we get, we can't be sulking — we just have to go out and show what we can do."
Ngumoha's contract at Anfield runs until 2028. With his performances speaking louder than any transfer rumour, the 18-year-old appears entirely focused on the present.
