Niger Tornadoes Keeper Julu Earns First Liberia Call-Up for Cape Verde Double-Header

1 hour ago·1 min

Derrick Daddy Julu, the Niger Tornadoes goalkeeper, has received his first-ever call-up to the Liberia national team ahead of a crucial 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Cape Verde.

The invitation comes on the back of a strong run of form for the Lone Star newcomer, who kept three clean sheets in four league appearances this month — form that caught the eye of the Liberian coaching staff.

Two tough fixtures for the Lone Star

Liberia open the double-header away from home, travelling to Praia to face Cape Verde on Matchday Three on Friday, 13 November 2026. Four days later, the Lone Star welcome Cape Verde to Monrovia for the return fixture.

The stakes are high. Liberia have yet to pick up a single point in the qualifying campaign, having lost their opening match 3-1 away to Rwanda before suffering a 1-0 defeat at home to Mali.

With the West Africans already under significant pressure, the double-header against Cape Verde represents a pivotal moment in their bid to stay in contention for a place at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Julu's chance to shine

For Julu, the call-up is a reward for consistent club form and an opportunity to establish himself on the international stage. His inclusion gives Liberia a fresh option between the posts as they look to turn their qualifying fortunes around.
